India delivered a dominant performance against Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, registering a comprehensive 61-run victory. With this win, Suryakumar Yadav and his team extended India’s World Cup record over Pakistan to 8-1, further strengthening their supremacy in cricket’s most celebrated rivalry. The victory also confirmed India’s qualification for the Super 8 stage with three consecutive wins.
Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 175/7 in 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a sensational 77-run knock from opener Ishan Kishan, who provided early momentum despite losing his opening partner Abhishek Sharma for a duck. Kishan’s aggressive approach ensured India maintained a strong run rate on a surface that offered assistance to the bowlers.
Kishan reached his half-century in just 27 balls, striking at nearly 200 and consistently finding boundaries when others struggled. Pakistan’s spinners attempted to tighten the scoring, but Kishan’s attacking intent kept the pressure firmly on the opposition. Although the middle order faltered briefly with quick dismissals of Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya in the 15th over, India managed to finish strongly, aided by Rinku Singh’s late cameo.

In response, Pakistan endured a disastrous start. Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed for a duck in the very first over by Hardik Pandya, who bowled a wicket maiden to set the tone. India’s disciplined bowling attack maintained relentless pressure, restricting Pakistan’s scoring opportunities and preventing any meaningful partnerships from developing.
As wickets fell at regular intervals, Pakistan struggled to keep up with the required run rate. India’s bowlers executed their plans effectively, combining tight lines with sharp fielding support to seal a convincing 61-run triumph. The result not only reinforced India’s dominance over Pakistan in World Cup encounters but also showcased their balance and depth as defending champions in the tournament.
