India Under-19 produced a strong batting display against Bangladesh Under-19 in their ICC U19 World Cup 2026 match in Bulawayo before rain interrupted play on Saturday. With 11 overs remaining in the innings, India reached 192 for 6 after 39 overs, putting themselves in a competitive position despite early setbacks.
The highlight of the innings was a sensational knock from 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a fluent 72 off 67 balls. In the process, he broke Virat Kohli’s long-standing record for the most runs by an Indian in youth ODIs and became the youngest player in U19 World Cup history to score a half-century, underlining his prodigious talent.
Wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu provided crucial stability in the middle order with a composed half-century. Batting with maturity beyond his years, Kundu absorbed pressure after India’s top order collapsed early and helped rebuild the innings alongside RS Ambrish, who remained unbeaten when play was halted.

India’s innings began on a shaky note as Ayush Mhatre, Vedant Trivedi, and Vihaan Malhotra were dismissed inside the powerplay. Bangladesh’s bowlers exploited the early movement effectively, leaving India struggling before the Suryavanshi-Kundu partnership restored momentum.
The match also drew attention before the first ball, as captains Ayush Mhatre and Azizul Hakim Tamim did not shake hands at the toss, reportedly due to ongoing political tensions between the two countries. With rain pausing proceedings, fans will be hoping for a swift resumption so the contest can reach a decisive conclusion.
