A 21-year-old man, Ankit Kumar Mishra, was arrested in Patna by a Giridih police Special Investigation Team (SIT) for issuing death threats against two Jharkhand ministers in a viral social media video. The accused, a resident of Rajendra Nagar under Giridih Mufassil police station, allegedly targeted Urban Development Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu and Health Minister Irfan Ansari, vowing to kill them within 24 hours.
In the video, recorded on Monday in Jamui and widely circulated by Wednesday, Mishra boasted of ties to notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, claiming he had sworn to murder the ministers before returning home. Giridih Superintendent of Police Bimal Kumar clarified that Mishra has no actual connections to organized crime but has a history of petty offenses, including prior jail time. “We formed an SIT after a local resident filed a case. Using technical information and intelligence, we apprehended him in Patna,” Kumar told PTI.
The SIT confiscated Mishra’s mobile phone and is interrogating him to uncover further details. SDPO Sadar Jitvahan Oraon confirmed Mishra confessed to creating and uploading the threatening video. “He was arrested Wednesday night, and cases will be filed for threatening and inciting unrest,” Oraon stated.

The incident has heightened tensions in Jharkhand, already grappling with political and communal unrest following recent violence in Giridih. Authorities are investigating the motives behind Mishra’s threats, which he claimed stemmed from personal grievances with the ministers. The police have urged the public to remain calm as they continue to probe the case, ensuring swift action to maintain law and order.
