Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday described China-Russia relations as “particularly precious” amid what he called an international environment marked by uncertainty and turbulence, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Xi said the stability and certainty of bilateral ties had gained greater significance against a backdrop of global change and disorder, adding that the longstanding friendship treaty between China and Russia demonstrated strong vitality and “exemplary significance” in the current geopolitical climate. He emphasised that both countries should strengthen strategic coordination to protect their shared interests and support unity among Global South nations.
The Chinese President also called on Beijing and Moscow to act as responsible major powers and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, urging them to uphold multilateralism and work towards strengthening the authority of the UN. He said both sides should contribute to shaping a more “just and reasonable” international order and deepen diplomatic coordination on global issues.

Xi further stressed the need for closer communication between the foreign ministries of the two countries to implement consensus reached with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He called for enhanced strategic alignment to ensure that the comprehensive partnership between China and Russia continues to “stand higher, walk more steadily and go further,” according to CCTV.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is on a two-day visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, said Russia-China relations have shown strong resilience despite a complex international environment. He highlighted growing cooperation in trade and investment as well as close coordination in multilateral forums such as the United Nations.
Lavrov also said Russia was willing to work with China to promote international fairness and justice and deepen their strategic partnership further. The meeting comes amid continued global uncertainty, including geopolitical tensions linked to ongoing conflicts and shifting alliances, as both countries seek to reinforce their diplomatic alignment on key international issues.
