A long-standing family dispute within the Nagod royal family in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district turned violent on Thursday when a woman was allegedly shot during an altercation at the historic Parsamaniya Garhi residence. The incident left Yogita Singh, the first wife of Rupendra Kumar Singh, popularly known as Baba Raja, with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Police responded to the scene shortly after receiving information about the firing and shifted the injured woman for urgent medical treatment.
Yogita Singh was initially taken to a hospital in Satna before being referred to a multi-speciality medical facility in Rewa for advanced treatment. Doctors performed surgery and hospital sources said her condition is now stable and she is out of immediate danger, though she remains under medical observation. The incident has attracted widespread attention due to the involvement of members of the prominent Nagod royal family and the serious allegations surrounding the shooting.
According to police and family members, Yogita Singh had arrived at Parsamaniya Garhi two days before the incident along with her brothers, son and other relatives to discuss an ongoing family dispute. What reportedly began as an attempt to resolve differences escalated into a heated argument on Thursday. Based on the complaint filed by the victim, Sunita Singh Parihar, who is alleged to be living with Rupendra Kumar Singh, opened fire using a licensed .22 bore firearm during the confrontation.

Investigators said multiple rounds were allegedly fired inside the premises, with one bullet striking Yogita Singh in the abdomen. Following the incident, police detained and later arrested Sunita Singh Parihar. Security was increased in and around the Garhi to prevent any further escalation and maintain public order as news of the shooting spread across the district. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading up to the firing.
The victim's mother, Narendra Kumari, has levelled serious allegations regarding the incident. She claimed that her daughter and family members had gone to the residence only for discussions related to the family dispute. According to her allegations, Sunita Singh Parihar fired several rounds during the altercation, while Rupendra Kumar Singh allegedly encouraged the act. She further alleged that her daughter had previously faced harassment and physical abuse, claims that have now become part of the wider investigation.
Police officials have registered a case against Sunita Singh Parihar under sections related to attempt to murder and abusive conduct. Officials said all aspects of the case, including the sequence of events, the motive behind the firing, the role of individuals present at the scene and the legal status of the weapon used, are being examined. Senior police officers have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the probe.
