Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar held a second meeting in two days with Congress MLA KN Rajanna, a known close confidant of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, intensifying speculation amid persistent discussions on leadership transition within the ruling party. The nearly two-hour discussion, conducted at a private location, reportedly covered critical topics including potential power transfer arrangements, future party strategy, and the chairmanship of the apex cooperative bank.
The encounters have attracted significant attention given Rajanna's past opposition to any leadership change and his proximity to Siddaramaiah. Previously serving as Cooperation Minister, Rajanna was removed from the Cabinet following controversial remarks on vote theft that caused embarrassment to the party and its leadership. Supporters of Rajanna had earlier accused Shivakumar of orchestrating his dismissal, adding layers to the current interactions.
Shivakumar described the meeting as cordial, emphasizing his longstanding relationship with Rajanna that predates the latter's association with Siddaramaiah. He highlighted appointing Rajanna as district apex cooperative bank chairman during the SM Krishna government and stressed unity, stating that both he and the Chief Minister work closely like brothers while dismissing any personal animosity.

Rajanna confirmed the meeting occurred in Shivakumar's capacity as state party president, asserting no political undertones and that Shivakumar acts solely in the party's best interest. He maintained his unwavering support for Siddaramaiah and reiterated that any decision on leadership rests exclusively with the Congress high command, showing no shift from his earlier stance against power transfer.
These developments occur against the backdrop of an ongoing internal power dynamic in Karnataka Congress, despite public displays of solidarity between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. Shivakumar's recent engagements with several leaders from Siddaramaiah's inner circle, including KJ George, Satish Jarkiholi, and Zameer Ahmed Khan, indicate concerted efforts to strengthen alliances and consolidate influence within the party structure.
