The US House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a $95 billion budget framework that includes major funding provisions for the Pentagon and other federal programmes, with a significant portion of the package allocated towards military operations linked to the ongoing war against Iran. The measure passed by a narrow margin, highlighting divisions within Congress over government spending priorities and foreign policy. The budget framework was approved in a 216-214 vote and will now move to the Senate, where its future remains uncertain.

The package represents one of the final major legislative efforts before the November midterm elections, a crucial political contest that will determine control of Congress and influence the direction of President Donald Trump’s second term. Under the proposed plan, approximately $73 billion would be directed towards the armed forces and intelligence agencies. The proposal also includes $12 billion in financial assistance for farmers affected by President Donald Trump’s trade policies. The funding is aimed at supporting agricultural communities that have faced economic challenges due to tariffs and disruptions linked to ongoing trade disputes. Lawmakers supporting the provision said the assistance would help protect farmers from the impact of market uncertainty. Another $10 billion allocation in the package is designated for election-related programmes. The funding comes as Trump and his allies push for nationwide changes to voting rules through broader election legislation. The administration has promoted the "SAVE America Act", but the proposal has struggled to gain sufficient support to advance through Congress.
