In a pivotal moment for Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to lead the second state conference of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Madurai on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Held at Parapathi along the Madurai-Thoothukudi Highway, the event is poised to be a massive show of strength ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, expected around April-May. The conference follows TVK’s inaugural gathering in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, in October 2024, which marked Vijay’s formal entry into politics as an aspiring chief minister.
Vijay arrived in Madurai late Wednesday, greeted by thousands of enthusiastic supporters and party cadres. The venue, sprawling over 506 acres, features large cut-outs of DMK founder C.N. Annadurai, AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran, and Vijay, with the slogan “Varalaru Thirumbukirathu” (History Repeats), evoking the transformative elections of 1967 and 1977. Despite a minor setback—a collapsed flagpole crushing a parked vehicle with no injuries reported—the event’s preparations remain robust, with 2,700 police personnel ensuring security for an expected two lakh attendees.
Vijay, who launched the TVK membership app “Now TVK” last week, has positioned the party as a primary force against the ruling DMK and the BJP, criticizing their governance and policies. Political observers anticipate Vijay will outline TVK’s electoral roadmap, emphasizing clean governance and social justice, while reinforcing his stance as the party’s chief ministerial candidate. As he juggles his final film, Jananayakan, Vijay’s Madurai address is expected to galvanize supporters and set the tone for a fierce electoral battle.
