Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Wednesday spoke out on the ongoing student protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination process, calling for the concerns of students to be addressed and reiterating his party’s long-standing demand regarding the medical entrance test. Vijay, who had made opposition to NEET a key issue during his political campaign before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, criticised the developments surrounding the recent protests in a detailed post on X.
His statement came amid nationwide demonstrations and opposition parties’ criticism of the government’s handling of the issue. The Tamil Nadu chief minister expressed support for students who have been protesting over alleged examination irregularities and called for authorities to consider their concerns. He also stressed the need to respect the sentiments of students and families affected by the controversy.
The actor-turned-politician has previously positioned his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as a supporter of Tamil Nadu’s demand to be exempted from NEET. The issue has remained a major political debate in the state, with successive governments raising concerns over the impact of the examination system on students.

Vijay’s remarks came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was detained during an Opposition protest in Delhi over alleged police action against students participating in a ‘Chalo Sansad’ march. Several opposition leaders have criticised the response of authorities during the demonstrations and demanded accountability. The protests have intensified following allegations of irregularities in the NEET-UG examination process.
Student groups have demanded transparency and corrective measures, while opposition parties have targeted the Centre over the handling of the issue. The government has maintained that it is committed to ensuring fairness and credibility in competitive examinations. Authorities have said investigations are underway into allegations of wrongdoing and that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
NEET has remained a politically sensitive issue in Tamil Nadu, where several parties have argued that the examination creates challenges for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Supporters of the exam, however, have maintained that a common entrance test helps create a uniform admission process for medical colleges across the country. Vijay’s latest statement reinforces his party’s position on the issue and places him among political leaders responding to the nationwide protests.
His comments are expected to draw attention in Tamil Nadu, where NEET continues to remain a major electoral and policy issue. As protests continue, the debate over the future of NEET and examination reforms is likely to remain a key issue in Parliament and across states. Further discussions are expected between political parties, students and government authorities over possible measures to address concerns surrounding the examination system.
