The United States has issued an urgent advisory asking all American citizens currently in Iran to leave the country immediately, citing escalating tensions and growing security risks. The warning was released by the Virtual US Embassy in Iran as unrest continues and diplomatic relations between Washington and Tehran further deteriorate.
The advisory instructs US nationals to prepare departure plans that do not rely on assistance from the US government. It warns of continued internet disruptions, possible flight cancellations, and sudden travel restrictions. Americans were advised to consider exiting Iran by land through neighbouring countries such as Turkey or Armenia if it is safe to do so.
US authorities also urged those unable to leave to find secure shelter, stock essential supplies, avoid public demonstrations, and maintain a low profile. Citizens were asked to closely monitor local news, keep communication devices charged, and stay in touch with family members regarding their safety.

Special caution was issued for US-Iranian dual nationals, with Washington reminding them that Iran does not recognise dual citizenship. Such individuals were advised to leave Iran using Iranian passports, as displaying US connections could lead to questioning, arrest, or detention by Iranian authorities.
The warning comes as tensions between the two nations intensify following US President Donald Trump’s threat to strike Iran over its violent crackdown on mass protests that erupted in late December 2025. The US has also deployed significant naval assets to the Gulf, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been stationed in the region since late January.
Relations remain strained over disagreements on Iran’s missile programme and nuclear negotiations, with both sides issuing sharp warnings. While diplomatic efforts led by Turkey aim to prevent escalation, uncertainty persists, raising fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East if talks fail.
