A 50-year-old man allegedly attacked his wife with an axe following a domestic dispute before dying by suicide in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district on Thursday, police said. The incident took place around 10 a.m. in Rur village, which falls under the Khadini police outpost of the Saurikh police station area.
According to Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, the accused, identified as Govind Dubey, allegedly got into an argument with his 46-year-old wife, Aarti, over a domestic issue. During the altercation, he reportedly attacked her with an axe, leaving her with serious injuries.
Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the couple's house and immediately shifted Aarti to the Community Health Centre for treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, doctors referred her to the Government Medical College at Tirwa, where she is undergoing treatment. Police said her condition is now stable and she is out of danger.

Officials said the couple is survived by their 19-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident, though initial findings suggest the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Authorities have appealed to the public to seek timely support in situations involving family conflict or emotional distress. The case has once again highlighted the devastating consequences that unresolved domestic disputes and acts of violence can have on families and communities.
