The Centre has assured that there is no shortage of funds for the Polavaram irrigation project, with Union Secretary V.L. Kantharao stating that adequate financial support will continue to be provided to ensure timely completion of the key infrastructure initiative. Speaking on the status of the project, the official emphasised that the Union government remains committed to fully funding Polavaram, which has been designated as a national project. He noted that financial allocations are being made in line with project requirements, and there are no constraints in terms of fund availability.
The Polavaram project, located in Andhra Pradesh, is considered one of the largest multipurpose irrigation projects in the country. It is expected to provide irrigation benefits to lakhs of acres, generate hydroelectric power, and supply drinking water to several regions. Officials said its completion is critical for agricultural growth and water management in the state.
Kantharao added that the Centre is closely monitoring progress and working in coordination with the state government to address any implementation challenges. He highlighted that timely release of funds is being ensured to avoid delays and maintain the pace of construction activities. The assurance comes amid periodic concerns over cost escalations and delays associated with large infrastructure projects. Officials reiterated that mechanisms are in place to review expenditures, streamline approvals, and ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
