Ride-hailing company Uber is set to establish its first data center in India in partnership with Adani Group, marking a significant expansion of the company’s technology infrastructure in the country. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi following his meeting with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad.
Khosrowshahi shared details of the development in a post on X, stating that the collaboration builds on Uber’s existing partnership with the Adani Group. He said the upcoming facility would help the company test and deploy its technology solutions while strengthening India’s position as a growing innovation hub for Uber’s global operations. According to the company, the data center is expected to become operational later this year.
The move highlights Uber’s increasing focus on India as both a major market and a strategic technology base. The company appears to be leveraging India’s expanding digital infrastructure and engineering talent to support not only domestic services but also global-scale product development and technological deployment. Industry analysts view the decision as part of a broader trend among multinational technology firms investing heavily in India’s digital ecosystem.

The partnership also underscores the Adani Group’s ambitions in the data infrastructure and digital services sector. Over the past few years, the conglomerate has expanded beyond its traditional businesses in ports, logistics, and energy into technology-driven sectors including data centers, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure. The collaboration with Uber is expected to further strengthen its position in India’s growing cloud and data services market.
During a recent public address, Gautam Adani emphasised the rising importance of data and artificial intelligence in shaping future economies. He noted that countries such as China and the United States have already recognised the strategic value of data and digital intelligence. His remarks align with the Adani Group’s ongoing investments aimed at supporting India’s digital transformation and attracting global technology partnerships.
The establishment of Uber’s first Indian data center comes at a time when global technology companies are increasingly localising data infrastructure to improve operational efficiency, enhance regulatory compliance, and support faster deployment of digital services. With India emerging as one of the world’s largest digital markets, the Uber-Adani partnership is expected to play a key role in advancing the country’s position in the global technology and innovation landscape.
