Torrential rains triggered deadly incidents in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi and Kathua districts, claiming two lives and injuring several others early Saturday, August 23, 2025, officials reported. The heavy downpour, linked to a low-pressure system over the region, caused landslides and flash floods, exacerbating the region’s vulnerability to monsoon disasters.
In Reasi’s Mahore area, Shahbaz Ahmad, a resident of Jamlan village, was killed when a landslide struck his truck near Malai Nallah around 2:30 a.m. Two others, Javed Ahmad and Abdul Gani, were injured and evacuated to a nearby hospital by rescue teams, according to The Hindu. In a separate incident in Kathua, Ravi lost his life when his car was swept away by flash floods while crossing an overflowing stream near Dreamland Park. A joint team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police retrieved his body, as confirmed by The Tribune.
Additionally, a private bus carrying at least 20 passengers, including students, overturned near a bridge in the Arnia area of R.S. Pura, on Jammu’s outskirts. The driver lost control on a rain-slicked road, causing the vehicle to skid and flip into a field. Four of the injured are in serious condition and receiving treatment, officials told Devdiscourse. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned of heavy rainfall, with a flash flood alert issued for multiple districts, including Reasi and Kathua, as noted by WIONews.
