TVK Minister Aadhav Arjuna on Thursday claimed that nearly 90 per cent of AIADMK cadres and functionaries were prepared to join the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), asserting that the party had emerged as the new political force in Tamil Nadu. He made the remarks during an event held at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, where members from smaller regional groups and trade union organisations formally joined the party. The programme was attended by senior TVK leaders, including Minister N. Anand, and marked another effort by the ruling party to expand its organisational base across the state.
More than 100 individuals, led by Anna Trade Union president Kamalakannan, joined the party during the event. Addressing party workers and supporters, Aadhav Arjuna described the political developments unfolding in Tamil Nadu as “historic” and claimed that TVK had rapidly gained the trust of the public after assuming office. He said the party leadership had held discussions with several political and social leaders in recent months and suggested that the growing support reflected confidence in the government’s performance and direction.
The Minister also praised senior TVK leader K.A. Sengottaiyan, stating that critics who questioned his decision to join the party had now been proven wrong. Referring to the political legacy of former Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, Arjuna claimed that TVK leader and current Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had carried forward that legacy by leading the party to power. He said Vijay’s entry into Fort St. George symbolised a major political shift in the state and represented the rise of a new leadership model focused on governance and public welfare.

Targeting the opposition, Aadhav Arjuna accused both the DMK and AIADMK of failing to provide effective administration during their respective tenures. He claimed the TVK government had already begun dismantling corruption and reducing what he described as the “commission culture” in the state administration. Defending the coalition government led by TVK, he said the alliance represented a broad secular front that brought together parties from different ideological backgrounds for governance and development. He also questioned the AIADMK leadership’s criticism of the alliance and challenged claims regarding the opposition’s political legitimacy.
Referring to recent political resignations and defections, the Minister stated that TVK had not encouraged lawmakers to switch sides through inducements or political pressure. According to him, several leaders and legislators were voluntarily expressing interest in joining TVK because of growing public support for the ruling party. He said even elected representatives were willing to resign from their positions, join TVK “honestly,” and return to the people for a fresh mandate. Arjuna added that the party welcomed such leaders and cadres who wished to align themselves with TVK’s political vision.
Concluding his address, Aadhav Arjuna predicted a major political realignment in Tamil Nadu over the coming weeks. He claimed that TVK alone was following the welfare-oriented political approach introduced by M.G. Ramachandran and later continued by Jayalalithaa. Reiterating his confidence in the party’s expanding influence, he declared that a large majority of AIADMK members would soon join TVK. The statement is expected to intensify political debate in the state, particularly amid speculation over possible defections and shifting alliances ahead of future electoral contests.
