U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly told leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) that Iran was “about to surrender” during a recent virtual meeting, according to officials briefed on the call. The claim came as the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran intensified across the Middle East.
According to reports citing multiple G7 officials, Trump argued that recent military operations had severely weakened Iran’s leadership and capabilities. He reportedly suggested that the Iranian government was so disorganized that “nobody knows who is the leader,” making it difficult for Tehran to formally announce any surrender.
The comments were made shortly before the first public remarks attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, who recently assumed leadership after the death of his father Ali Khamenei early in the conflict. Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly, and his initial message to the nation was reportedly delivered through a television presenter on Iranian state media.

In that message, the new Iranian leader vowed continued resistance against the United States and Israel and warned of retaliatory actions. Iranian officials also suggested measures such as closing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, and targeting regional states hosting U.S. military bases if the conflict escalates further.
The war, which began in late February after large-scale strikes on Iranian military infrastructure, has already triggered widespread regional instability. Missile and drone attacks have been reported across multiple countries, while global markets have reacted sharply amid fears of disruptions to oil supplies and trade routes.
While Trump’s claim of an imminent Iranian surrender reflects confidence from the U.S. side, international officials remain cautious about the conflict’s trajectory. Some G7 leaders reportedly remain uncertain whether Washington intends to push for rapid de-escalation or continue military pressure on Tehran in the coming weeks.
