Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched the state-level 'Swachhata Hi Seva' programme at Rabindra Bhavan on Wednesday, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. The initiative, part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, aims to promote cleanliness across the state through a series of events from September 17 to October 2, culminating in Swachh Utsav on Gandhi Jayanti.
Addressing the gathering, Saha emphasised the transformation of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched by Modi on October 2, 2014, into a nationwide people’s movement. He praised the Agartala Municipal Corporation’s efforts in waste management and urged citizens to maintain clean surroundings and foster inner purity to build a healthier society.
The event saw participation from notable figures, including Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman, Mayor Dipak Majumdar, PWD Secretary Brijesh Pandey, Urban Development Secretary Abhishek Singh, and Padma Shri awardee Dipa Karmakar.
In parallel celebrations, MP Biplab Kumar Deb offered prayers at the Chaturdash Devta temple in West Tripura, seeking blessings for Modi. Speaking to reporters, Deb lauded Modi’s journey from humble beginnings to national leadership, highlighting his dedication to public service. He called on citizens to take pride in Modi’s contributions, noting the prayer as a gesture of gratitude for his leadership.
