A 13-year-old Class 8 student, Mithun, son of Valayapadam Manu, was fatally electrocuted at Boys High School, Thevalakkara, on Thursday morning around 9:15 AM, police confirmed. The incident occurred when Mithun climbed onto the school’s cycle shed to retrieve a slipper and came into contact with a low-hanging electric wire, resulting in his immediate death.
Police and locals rushed Mithun to a nearby taluk hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The community has accused school authorities of negligence, alleging the hazardous wire, dangerously close to the shed, was not addressed despite being a known risk. Posts on X echoed the outrage, demanding accountability for the tragedy.
General Education Minister V Sivankutty called the incident “extremely tragic” and ordered the Director of Public Instructions to conduct an urgent investigation and submit a report. The probe aims to uncover lapses in safety measures at the school, as calls grow for stricter oversight to prevent such incidents.
