A Bengaluru traffic policeman endured a terrifying 10-minute ordeal on the night of November 27 after an autorickshaw driver, caught driving against a one-way street in Sadashivanagar, rammed into a scooter and then sped away with the officer trapped inside the vehicle. The constable, on night patrol duty near 10th Cross around 9 p.m., attempted to stop the errant auto when the driver suddenly accelerated, sideswiped a scooter, and fled the scene without stopping.
According to the complaint lodged at Sadashivanagar police station, the officer managed to jump into the moving autorickshaw to prevent the driver from escaping. Instead of halting, the driver allegedly drove recklessly for several kilometers with the policeman inside, ignoring repeated orders to stop. The constable clung to the vehicle while shouting for help until the driver finally abandoned the vehicle near a busy junction and fled on foot.
The damaged autorickshaw was later seized by a police patrol team alerted through wireless, but the driver remains absconding. The scooter rider sustained minor injuries and has been treated. Police have registered a case under sections for rash and negligent driving, causing hurt by negligence, and preventing a public servant from discharging duty.
