In a fiery political confrontation, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee sharply criticized the BJP for reviving an outdated Election Commission (EC) notification to bolster its narrative around the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) exercise in West Bengal. Banerjee’s remarks spotlight the escalating tensions as both parties vie for dominance amid intense scrutiny and controversy.
Banerjee targeted the BJP’s “propaganda machinery” for repurposing a four-month-old EC notice detailing fee increases for booth-level officers and BLO supervisors, originally issued on August 2. He accused the BJP of misleading the public by presenting this old information as new to glorify the EC amidst mounting public distrust. Posting on X, Banerjee emphasized that this tactic exposed the BJP’s failing strategy on the SIR, which he declared has “collapsed” in the public eye.
The TMC leader underscored the BJP’s recognition of Bengal’s political strength despite the ruling party’s extensive use of central government institutions, including the Election Commission, Enforcement Directorate, CBI, IT investigations, central forces, a compliant media, and parts of the judiciary. Banerjee confidently asserted that these efforts have not deterred the TMC’s prospects, predicting an even stronger TMC mandate than in the 2021 elections.

Challenging BJP leaders directly, Banerjee invited them to confront his criticisms head-on rather than hiding behind “stale propaganda” and their use of state power, signaling a no-holds-barred political battle in the state. His forceful denunciation exemplifies the fierce rivalry that continues to dominate West Bengal’s political landscape, where every allegation and counter-argument fuels the heated contest for public support.
