Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee unleashed a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of manipulating the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to “select voters” ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. Speaking at a rally organized by the TMC’s student wing in Kolkata, Banerjee warned that any attempt to disenfranchise legitimate voters would trigger massive protests in New Delhi.
Banerjee alleged that the BJP, unable to secure a democratic victory in Bengal, is resorting to underhanded tactics to “snatch away the voting rights of Bengalis.” He described the SIR process as undemocratic, claiming it allows the BJP to cherry-pick voters to sway the upcoming elections. “Earlier, voters elected governments, but now the BJP is selecting voters. If they dare delete even one legitimate voter, we will take our fight to the streets of Delhi,” he declared, rallying the crowd with a promise of fierce resistance.
Asserting the TMC’s dominance, Banerjee predicted a stronger mandate in 2026 than in 2021, despite opposition from “a section of the judiciary, BJP, and central agencies.” He boldly challenged the BJP to surpass 50 seats in the state, claiming the support of “10 crore Bengalis” would ensure TMC’s victory. “The BJP cannot win Bengal democratically, so they tamper with voter lists,” he charged.

Banerjee also criticized the Central government for stalling the TMC’s proposed Aparajita Bill, aimed at enhancing women’s safety. “The Centre’s inaction exposes their double standards on women’s security,” he said, accusing the BJP of neglecting critical issues while pursuing political vendettas.
As tensions rise, Banerjee’s fiery rhetoric signals a heated battle ahead, with the TMC gearing up to defend Bengal’s democratic rights.
