Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has personally announced a substantial cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for any credible information leading to the arrest of the prime accused in the brutal murder of 24-year-old Anjel Chakma. The announcement, made through a strongly worded video message, underscores deep frustration with the ongoing delay in capturing the mastermind behind the racially motivated attack.
Anjel Chakma, a final-year MBA student hailing from Nandannagar in West Tripura district, was viciously assaulted by a group of six individuals in Dehradun on December 9 after he protested against derogatory racial slurs directed at him and his younger brother. The attack inflicted severe injuries, and despite prolonged medical treatment, Chakma succumbed to his wounds on December 26, sparking widespread outrage across northeastern India.
Authorities in Uttarakhand have arrested five of the six accused, including two minors who have been placed in a juvenile facility, but the alleged mastermind remains at large. Police suspect the fugitive may have fled to Nepal, prompting dedicated search teams and an official reward of Rs 25,000 earlier declared by Uttarakhand Police for tips facilitating his capture.

Debbarma's generous offer, to be funded from his personal resources, directly responds to the perceived inadequacy of the government's bounty. In his video, he expressed indignation, questioning whether Rs 25,000 adequately reflects the value of justice for a young student's life, and urged the public not to undermine the gravity of the incident with insufficient action.
In a related development, the Tipra Motha Party-controlled Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council has approved Rs 3 lakh in financial compensation for Chakma's bereaved family, as recommended by Debbarma himself. This aid aims to assist with final rites and provide support during their profound loss, embodying solidarity and collective responsibility in the face of tragedy.
