A 55-year-old autorickshaw driver, Sahebrao Yadav, was seriously injured and trapped in his vehicle after a high-impact collision with a trailer truck in Thane city, Maharashtra, in the early hours of Friday. The accident occurred near the Shell petrol pump in the Pachpakhadi area along the Eastern Express Highway, a busy corridor connecting key parts of the city.
According to Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell, the autorickshaw was traveling between Nitin Company Junction and Mulund Checkpoint when it was struck by an unidentified trailer around 3:30 am. The force of the crash severely damaged the three-wheeler, leaving Yadav trapped inside the wreckage.
The disaster control room received an alert at 3:44 am, prompting a swift response from the Thane Fire Brigade. A team equipped with one fire engine and a rescue vehicle reached the scene and extricated Yadav in just 15 minutes using specialized tools. He was immediately rushed to the District Government Hospital for treatment, where he is receiving care for his injuries.

The trailer driver fled the scene with the vehicle, and local police have launched an investigation to track down the culprit. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the highway and nearby areas to identify the trailer and its driver. The incident has raised concerns about road safety on the Eastern Express Highway, particularly during early morning hours when heavy vehicles are common.
This accident follows a pattern of hit-and-run incidents in Thane, with officials urging stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such occurrences. The Thane Municipal Corporation and police are coordinating efforts to ensure justice for the injured driver while emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures for autorickshaw drivers navigating busy routes.
