A 23-year-old pregnant woman allegedly died by suicide in Telangana's Sangareddy district after reportedly facing repeated physical and mental harassment from her husband and mother-in-law, who allegedly questioned the paternity of her unborn child and demanded a DNA test. The incident took place in Gadipeddapur village under Alladurg mandal in Medak district. The deceased, identified as Sushmita, had been married to G. Abhilash for around 18 months and was five months pregnant at the time of her death.
According to the complaint lodged by her mother, Janabai, Sushmita had been subjected to sustained harassment by her husband, who allegedly suspected her fidelity. The complaint also accused the victim's mother-in-law of ill-treating her. Janabai alleged that the repeated accusations and emotional distress severely affected her daughter's mental well-being, ultimately leading to the tragic incident.
The family stated that they had visited Sushmita's residence on June 23 to discuss arrangements for her baby shower ceremony. During the meeting, an argument reportedly broke out between the two families, during which Abhilash allegedly demanded a DNA test for the unborn child in the presence of relatives. Community elders intervened and temporarily resolved the dispute, but the victim's family claimed that the harassment continued even after the meeting. Two days later, Sushmita was found hanging in her residence.

Police have arrested Sushmita's husband, G. Abhilash, and his mother in connection with the case. According to Alladurg Police Station Sub-Inspector D. Shankar, both accused were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Investigators are continuing to examine the allegations and gather evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
