The Telangana government is preparing to introduce stringent legislation in the upcoming budget session to penalise government employees who neglect their elderly parents. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced on Monday that the proposed law would authorise the deduction of 10 to 15 per cent from the monthly salary of such employees, with the deducted amount to be directly credited to the bank accounts of their neglected parents.
Reddy emphasised that failing to care for one’s parents constitutes a failure to fulfil societal responsibilities. He described the measure as a humanitarian initiative aimed at ensuring senior citizens live with dignity and security in their later years. The Chief Minister made it clear that complaints lodged by elderly parents would be treated with utmost seriousness, followed by strict enforcement action against the defaulting children.
To further support senior citizens, the government is establishing dedicated day care centres named ‘Pranaam’ across the state. These facilities are intended to provide a safe and supportive environment for elders who may lack adequate family care, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to elderly welfare and social harmony.

In a separate announcement, Reddy stated that the transgender community would receive enhanced representation in local governance. One co-option member post in every municipal corporation will be reserved for transgender individuals during the next local body elections, aiming to promote inclusivity and ensure marginalised groups have a voice in decision-making processes.
The Chief Minister also revealed plans to unveil a comprehensive health policy during the budget session, designed to make quality medical treatment accessible to all citizens of Telangana. He reiterated the government’s overarching vision of creating a caring, equitable, and inclusive state where no section of society is left behind.
