Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that the state government will introduce a special mechanism to combat food adulteration, citing growing concerns over the quality and safety of consumables. Speaking to the media, Reddy said the proposed system would be modeled on recently launched enforcement initiatives such as EAGLE, aimed at curbing drug-related violations, and HYDRAA, focused on preventing lake encroachments.
Reddy emphasized that the government will study existing anti-adulteration laws across India and implement robust measures to protect public health. He underlined the importance of strong regulatory mechanisms to ensure that food supplied to citizens meets quality standards and said the initiative would prioritize both urban and rural areas of Telangana.
During the media interaction, the Chief Minister also criticized BJP MP K. Laxman over comments on delimitation and suggestions of imposing President’s Rule in the state. Reddy described the arguments as “unnecessary” and demanded Laxman resign for the sake of South India. He warned that proposed delimitation measures could disadvantage the region despite its achievements in family planning and urged national leaders to consider the consequences carefully.

The announcement coincided with the one-year anniversary of Telangana’s fine rice distribution scheme, under which 3.39 crore residents benefit from government-supplied fine rice. Reddy noted that the previous distribution of coarse rice had led to wastage and a rise in black-market activity, prompting the government to switch to fine rice. The scheme also includes a ₹500 per quintal incentive to encourage farmers to grow fine paddy, with ration cards issued to all eligible beneficiaries.
Reddy added that the government will promote crop diversification and encourage farmers to adopt commercial and alternative crops. In parallel, initiatives such as statewide cancer screening and continued support for subsidized LPG cylinders at ₹500 for eligible women will continue.
The Chief Minister also took a dig at former CM and BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), claiming his administration is delivering on promises while KCR’s government had failed to do so. Reddy’s remarks extended to KCR’s family members, suggesting that they remain politically constrained, while reaffirming the government’s focus on public welfare, food security, and health initiatives.
