Maharashtra police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav for an allegedly inflammatory post on X targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The case, registered in Gadchiroli district, stems from a complaint by local BJP MLA Milind Narote, who accused Yadav of posting objectionable content ahead of Modi’s visit to Gaya, Bihar, sparking a political firestorm.
The FIR, lodged under sections 196, 356, 352, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, charges Yadav with promoting enmity between groups, defamation, intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace, and causing public mischief. A senior police official confirmed the case on Friday, stating that Narote’s complaint highlighted the post’s potential to incite unrest and tarnish the Prime Minister’s image.
The controversy has intensified tensions between the BJP and RJD, with Narote alleging that Yadav’s remarks were a deliberate attempt to stir controversy during a sensitive political moment. “Such statements are unacceptable and undermine public harmony,” Narote said, urging swift action. The police are investigating the post’s content and its impact, with further action pending the inquiry’s outcome.
