The Tamil Nadu government has assigned ministers to oversee development works and welfare scheme implementation across all 15 zones of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), in a move aimed at strengthening supervision of civic projects across the city. Chennai district in-charge Minister Aadhav Arjuna will coordinate the activities of the ministers and oversee implementation across the corporation limits.

Under the new arrangement, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister Ramesh will monitor Tiruvottiyur Zone 1 and Manali Zone 2, while Information Technology and Digital Services Minister T. Lokesh Tamilselvan has been assigned Madhavaram Zone 3 and Tondiarpet Zone 4. Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Dr K.G. Arunraj will oversee Royapuram Zone 5 and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar Zone 6.

Handlooms, Textiles and Khadi Minister M. Vijay Balaji has been given responsibility for three zones — Ambattur Zone 7, Anna Nagar Zone 8 and Teynampet Zone 9. The allocation covers a mix of residential, commercial and central city areas, requiring coordination on infrastructure and civic services. The remaining zones have also been distributed among ministers based on the government’s citywide monitoring plan.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Dr T.K. Biju will oversee Kodambakkam Zone 10 and Valasaravakkam Zone 11. Transport Minister Vijay Tamilan Parthiban has been assigned Alandur Zone 12 and Adyar Zone 13, while Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K. Vignesh will monitor Perungudi Zone 14 and Sholinganallur Zone 15. These southern zones include rapidly developing residential and commercial areas as well as major technology corridors.

The ministers are expected to review the progress of development works, identify delays and coordinate with Greater Chennai Corporation officials and other government departments to resolve implementation issues. They will also monitor the delivery of welfare schemes to eligible residents and assess civic requirements specific to the zones under their supervision. The Greater Chennai Corporation is divided into 15 zones and 200 divisions for administrative purposes.

The government’s citywide allocation gives each GCC zone a designated ministerial supervisor while retaining a central coordinating role for Aadhav Arjuna. The arrangement is intended to improve accountability and facilitate closer monitoring of infrastructure, public services and welfare delivery. Regular reviews are expected to help authorities address zone-specific issues and strengthen coordination between the state administration, corporation officials and residents.
