A deadly wave of wall collapses triggered by relentless heavy rainfall has claimed four lives across Tamil Nadu, highlighting the devastating impact of the ongoing deluge. On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, three separate incidents in Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Kallakurichi districts left communities reeling as homes crumbled under the strain of continuous downpours.
In Andarmullipallam village near Puduchathiram, Cuddalore district, tragedy struck early Wednesday when a tiled house succumbed to four days of torrential rain. M. Yasothai, 69, and her daughter M. Jaya, 40, were asleep when a wall collapsed, killing Yasothai instantly. Jaya succumbed to her injuries en route to the Puduchathiram Primary Health Centre. The Puduchathiram police have launched an investigation, and the victims’ bodies were sent to Parangipettai Government Hospital for postmortem. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam visited the site, offering condolences and financial aid to the grieving family for funeral expenses.
In a parallel tragedy in Marakanam, Villupuram district, 65-year-old A. Pachiammal was cooking in her home when a wall gave way under the rain’s onslaught, trapping her beneath debris. She died on the spot, and her body was sent to a private medical college hospital in Ganapathychettykulam, Puducherry, for autopsy. Police are probing the incident, with preliminary reports pointing to structural weakening caused by the heavy rainfall.
