Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the people of Surat for their collective commitment to strengthening the vision of a self-reliant and developed India. Highlighting the city’s industrial and civic progress, he said Surat has emerged as a symbol of determination, growth, and national contribution, reflecting the broader goals of “Viksit Bharat” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister said it was a privilege to engage with the people of Surat and noted that the city had once again reaffirmed its dedication to making India stronger and more self-sufficient. He described Surat not merely as a city, but as a “spirit” driven by resilience and ambition.
During his remarks, PM Modi emphasised the importance of energy self-reliance amid ongoing global uncertainties. He pointed to industrial hubs such as Hazira, describing them as integrated ecosystems where sectors like energy, steel, defence production, and global trade come together, reinforcing India’s push toward economic independence and strategic capability.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the broader significance of the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, stating that India’s development journey is powered by optimism and determination. He said that despite critical voices, the country continues to move forward with confidence, driven by the aspirations of its citizens and the strength of its industrial base.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had inaugurated and launched development projects worth approximately ₹18,800 crore in Surat, focusing on infrastructure expansion and urban development. He also lauded the city’s continued efforts in cleanliness and civic engagement, noting that Surat’s transformation into one of India’s cleanest cities is the result of sustained public participation.
Referring to Surat’s historical challenges, including its past association with a severe plague outbreak, PM Modi said the city’s remarkable turnaround reflects the power of collective effort. He added that residents have continued to actively participate in cleanliness drives, even as the city has achieved national recognition, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to public hygiene and environmental responsibility.
