Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has indicated that he is prepared to end his 25-day hunger strike if the government agrees to two key demands concerning the treatment of student protesters. In a video message released from a private hospital in Gurugram, Wangchuk said he had lost around 11 kilograms and experienced significant muscle loss during the fast but described his overall condition as stable. He added that he had been shifted overnight from Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi to the private medical facility for continued care.

In his message, Wangchuk praised the students participating in the protests, saying they had shown restraint despite facing baton charges and other challenges. He said the treatment of the protesters was one of the main reasons he decided to continue his fast. Wangchuk also revealed that several political leaders, including ministers from the ruling party and around 65 Members of Parliament, had appealed to him to end the hunger strike and resume his public work, which he described as important to him.

The activist said he would end the fast if the government provides two assurances. First, he called on authorities to stop using force against student protesters. Second, he sought a guarantee that no false criminal cases or FIRs would be registered against students, alleging that such actions could be used to harass them through police investigations or imprisonment. Wangchuk said he would break his fast immediately if these assurances were provided but would continue the protest if no commitment was made.

Wangchuk has been at the forefront of demonstrations linked to the alleged NEET UG paper leak, with protesters demanding accountability and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. His latest remarks come amid continuing protests, political pressure for a resolution and recent clashes between student demonstrators and security personnel in the national capital. The government has not yet publicly responded to Wangchuk's latest conditions for ending his hunger strike.
