Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to launch the Singappenn Special Task Force on Tuesday, marking a major initiative aimed at strengthening women and child safety across the state. The inauguration will take place at 5 p.m. at the Jawaharlal Nehru Rajarathinam Sports Stadium in Chennai, with the government positioning the new unit as a key reform in law enforcement focused on rapid response and preventive policing.
The creation of the specialised task force was among the first major announcements made by the Chief Minister after assuming office. Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s emphasis on improving public safety systems through dedicated units that can respond more effectively to crimes against women and children, while also enhancing coordination among various police wings.
The Singappenn Special Task Force will be headed by senior IPS officer K. Bhavaneeswari, who has been appointed as its first Inspector General. The unit comprises more than 30 personnel, including one Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police, four Inspectors, and supporting staff. Authorities said the structure has been designed to ensure focused monitoring, swift intervention, and stronger field-level enforcement.

To give the unit a distinct identity, the government has introduced a specially designed uniform for its personnel. Women officers and Sub-Inspectors attached to the task force will wear blue shirts paired with khaki trousers, along with black caps and shoes. The uniform is intended to make the force easily identifiable during operations and outreach activities across Tamil Nadu’s districts.
The launch, which was initially scheduled for May 29 but postponed due to administrative reasons, is now expected to proceed as planned, with the task force beginning operations immediately after the inauguration. Following the ceremony, personnel will be deployed across all districts to begin fieldwork, focusing on surveillance, complaint response, victim assistance, and awareness programmes.
Officials have described the Singappenn Special Task Force as a flagship initiative of the Vijay-led government, aimed at strengthening public trust in policing systems. By establishing a dedicated unit for women and child safety, the administration hopes to create a more responsive and preventive law enforcement framework across Tamil Nadu.
