Singapore High Commissioner to India Simon Wong marked Ganesh Chaturthi by preparing for Ganapati Sthapana and extending wishes for peace and prosperity to people celebrating the festival. Wong shared a glimpse of his preparations as Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations continued across India with prayers, rituals and traditional festivities.
In a post shared on the occasion, Wong said he was preparing for Ganpati Sthapana at exactly 11:02 am, coinciding with the beginning of the Madhyahna Puja Muhurat. He also conveyed his greetings to people celebrating the festival and wished everyone peace and prosperity on Ganesh Chaturthi.
Ganesh Chaturthi is observed to mark the birth of Lord Ganesha, who is widely revered as the deity associated with good fortune and auspicious beginnings. During the festival, devotees across India install idols of Ganesha in homes, temples and public venues and offer prayers, flowers, sweets and other traditional offerings. Modak is among the most commonly associated offerings during the celebrations.

Ganesh Puja is traditionally performed during the Madhyahna period, which is regarded as an auspicious time for worshipping Lord Ganesha. Families and communities follow different customs for the duration of the festival, with celebrations ranging from a single day to several days. The festivities are marked by devotional gatherings, cultural programmes and rituals in different parts of the country.
The celebrations eventually culminate in Ganesh Visarjan, when devotees ceremonially immerse the Ganesha idol in water. While Anant Chaturdashi is regarded as the most significant day for Visarjan, families and communities may conduct the immersion earlier depending on their traditions and the number of days for which they observe Ganeshotsav.
Wong’s participation in the festival preparations comes as Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated widely across India. His greetings highlighted the festive occasion and conveyed wishes of peace and prosperity to those observing the festival, adding an international diplomatic presence to the celebrations.
