Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday reviewed wheat procurement arrangements in Madhya Pradesh, with a focus on ensuring a seamless and farmer-friendly process. The review was conducted via video conferencing from New Delhi, covering procurement operations in the Vidisha parliamentary constituency and other key regions of the state.
The minister assessed the ongoing procurement of wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Rabi marketing season 2026–27, which began in Madhya Pradesh on April 9. The meeting was attended by legislators from constituencies including Vidisha, Sanchi, Ganj Basoda, Budhni, Bhojpur, Khategaon, and Ichhawar, along with district collectors and senior administrative officials.

The Union minister also stressed the importance of logistical preparedness, including the availability of gunny bags and the proper functioning of slot booking systems. He instructed officials to promptly resolve any technical issues and to maintain strong coordination with local representatives to address on-ground challenges effectively.
Chouhan called for enhanced monitoring of procurement centres to ensure adherence to guidelines and prevent disruptions. He added that he would personally intervene, if necessary, by taking up concerns with the Madhya Pradesh government to safeguard farmers’ interests.
Officials informed the meeting that procurement is being carried out in phases across districts, supported by digital systems such as farmer registration and slot booking to improve transparency. The state government has also made arrangements at mandis and procurement centres aimed at assisting farmers, particularly small and marginal growers, during the MSP procurement process.
