Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar issued a stern warning to Congress party workers against discussing leadership changes in the state, labeling such talks as "anti-party activity" that damages the organization’s unity. The remarks come amid renewed speculation about replacing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with Shivakumar, fueled by statements from party MLA HD Ranganath, a relative of Shivakumar, and former Mandya MP LR Shivarame Gowda, who claimed a leadership switch was imminent next month.
Shivakumar firmly dismissed these claims, asserting that no discussions on power-sharing were underway and that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement about completing his full five-year term was final. “No one is allowed to speak on power-sharing, including Kunigal MLA HD Ranganath. I have directed Congress state working president GC Chandrashekhar to issue notices to those indulging in such talk,” Shivakumar declared during a press interaction in Bengaluru.
The Deputy CM emphasized party discipline, stating that both he and Siddaramaiah were "disciplined soldiers" of the Congress and would abide by the high command’s decisions. “Where is the discussion on power-sharing? I’m saying this clearly—such matters should not be discussed. Siddaramaiah’s word is final, and no one should speak on his or my behalf,” Shivakumar said, warning that those fueling speculation were undermining the party’s interests.

Siddaramaiah, addressing the rumors a day earlier, reiterated his commitment to serving his full term as Chief Minister, effectively closing the matter. Shivakumar echoed this sentiment, urging party workers to focus on strengthening the Congress rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric. “Siddaramaiah has said the party is above individuals. We will follow the high command’s guidance,” he added, reinforcing the need for unity.
Taking a dig at the opposition, Shivakumar mocked the BJP’s internal challenges, saying, “Let them discuss their own revolution. I’ll give their leaders a needle and thread to stitch their torn party.” His remarks highlight the Congress’s intent to project a united front while countering opposition narratives.
The controversy underscores the delicate balance within the Karnataka Congress, where ambitions and loyalties often spark internal debates. Shivakumar’s strong stance aims to quell dissent and maintain stability, as the party prepares for future political battles in the state.
