The second edition of the ‘Mango Magic: Promotion and Tasting Event of Indian Mangoes’ was held in Seattle on Friday, bringing together over 100 importers of Indian fruits and senior representatives from major US retail chains, including Costco. The event, organised in coordination with the Consulate General of India in Seattle, aimed to showcase the growing popularity and export potential of Indian mangoes in the United States market.
The event featured seven premium varieties of Indian mangoes sourced from different regions of the country, highlighting India’s agricultural diversity. The varieties included Alphonso and Kesar from Maharashtra, Banganapalli and Himayat from Andhra Pradesh, Langra and Dussehri from Uttar Pradesh, and Rajapuri from Gujarat. Participants were given an opportunity to sample the fruits and experience their distinct flavours, textures and regional characteristics.
Addressing the gathering, Washington State Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck welcomed the increasing presence of Indian mangoes in the US market. He expressed appreciation for efforts to introduce a wider range of Indian varieties to consumers in Washington State, particularly through large retail networks such as Costco. Several dignitaries, including state senators Tina Orwell, Manka Dhingra and Vandana Slatter, along with consuls general from Japan and Uzbekistan, also attended the event.

According to the Consulate General of India, efforts to promote Indian mango exports in the Seattle region began in July 2025 and have since expanded through collaboration with stakeholders in India and the Greater Seattle area. These initiatives have helped facilitate the entry of premium Indian mango varieties into major retail outlets, including Costco, which is headquartered in Seattle and plays a key role in regional distribution.
The Consulate noted that momentum increased following a meeting with Costco’s Chief Executive Officer in April 2026, after which additional Indian agricultural products, including Maharashtra’s Bhagwa pomegranates and Kesar mangoes, were introduced in US stores. In May 2026, Costco reportedly imported its first consignment of Kesar mangoes, which were distributed across multiple locations in the United States, including Seattle, Kirkland, Issaquah, Woodinville, Lynnwood, Redmond, Las Vegas and parts of New Jersey and Los Angeles. According to officials, the initial shipments saw rapid sales, with stocks reportedly selling out within hours of arrival.
India, the world’s largest producer of mangoes with over 1,000 varieties and annual production exceeding 26 million metric tonnes, has seen growing export demand in recent years. Exports to the United States resumed in 2007 after an 18-year gap and have since expanded significantly. The value of mango exports to the US reached $10 million in FY 2023–24, reflecting a nearly 130 per cent increase compared to the previous fiscal year. Officials also noted that US mango imports are projected to rise further, with the overall American mango import market crossing $1 billion in value in 2025.
The Consulate General highlighted that the Seattle edition of Mango Magic, organised in partnership with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), reflects India’s growing export potential and global appeal of its horticultural produce. The event also included a special luncheon featuring dishes prepared using the showcased mango varieties, offering participants a culinary experience that highlighted India’s broader agricultural and cultural richness.
