Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday stated that the organisation is not driven by political ambitions but is focused on uniting Hindu society and fostering individual character development. Speaking to around 950 national and international sportspersons at Madhav Kunj in Shatabdi Nagar, Bhagwat emphasised that the RSS does not work in opposition to or in competition with any particular group.
Highlighting the Sangh’s nearly 100-year history since its founding in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, Bhagwat called upon the youth to actively contribute to nation-building. He described India as a concept extending beyond geographical boundaries, drawing inspiration from cultural and spiritual figures such as Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, Lord Buddha, Lord Mahavira, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Dayanand, and Mahatma Gandhi. He added that the term “Hindu” signifies unity in diversity rather than caste distinctions, and that societal harmony forms the foundation of the nation.
Bhagwat outlined four pillars of society—value inculcation, Sanatan culture, spirit of dharma, and embodiment of truth—and stressed that the RSS’s mission is to organise society through individual development. He noted that volunteers are active across multiple fields, prioritising national interest, and described sports as a powerful medium to foster unity. He also shared five guiding principles for those wishing to engage with the RSS, including understanding the organisation, connecting with affiliated bodies, supporting programmes, maintaining dialogue, and working selflessly for the nation.

Attendees, including Arjuna Award-winning wrestler Alka Tomar and para cricketer Surya Pratap Mishra, praised the event, calling it well-organised and inspiring. Bhagwat assured support for para athletes and highlighted the importance of mutual encouragement among sportspersons. The event is part of a nationwide series marking the RSS centenary, with Bhagwat set to interact with representatives from education, industry, medicine, literature, art, and trade on Saturday.
