Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday accused the Centre of weaponising investigative agencies by reviving the decade-old National Herald case through a fresh FIR against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and six others, describing the move as direct retaliation for Rahul Gandhi’s nationwide “vote chori” campaign exposing electoral malpractices.
Addressing the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee executive meeting in Hyderabad, Revanth Reddy announced that the state unit would formally write to the Union government condemning the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing action, asserting that no public money was ever involved in the revival of National Herald newspaper founded with assets from the freedom struggle era.
The Chief Minister emphasised that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi had only sought to protect the livelihoods of National Herald employees and honour Jawaharlal Nehru’s legacy by appointing senior Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, as directors for the publication’s restoration, rejecting allegations of financial impropriety as entirely baseless.

A resolution passed unanimously at the meeting expressed unwavering solidarity with the Gandhi family, whom Revanth Reddy described as having sacrificed everything for the nation, while accusing the ruling dispensation at the Centre of systematically misusing central agencies to harass opposition leaders through fabricated money-laundering probes.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy instructed newly appointed District Congress Committee presidents to ensure seamless delivery of welfare schemes, particularly the distribution of one crore Indiramma saris to women, and warned that their performance would be rigorously evaluated within six months, with the party retaining only those who deliver visible results on the ground.
