In her first public appearance since surviving an attack, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta vowed to prioritize the development of the trans-Yamuna region, often referred to as Yamunapaar, during the Vastrika-2025 event at Ashok Bazaar in Gandhi Nagar, Asia’s largest readymade garments market. Addressing traders and residents, Gupta emphasized her government’s commitment to elevating the region to the forefront of Delhi’s growth, promising substantial budget allocations to address long-standing infrastructure and civic challenges.
Gupta announced the appointment of Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely as chairman of the newly formed Yamuna Paar Vikas Board, lauding his dedication to public service and his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the sake of development. She tasked Lovely and East Delhi MP and Union Minister of State for Road Transport Harsh Malhotra with conducting detailed assessments of the region’s needs to guide targeted development initiatives. Additionally, Gupta revealed plans for new Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) electric bus routes originating from trans-Yamuna, enhancing connectivity and accessibility for residents.
Highlighting the Gandhi Nagar market’s 50-year legacy, the Chief Minister praised its alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Vocal for Local” and “One District One Product” initiatives, pledging to elevate its garment industry to international prominence. Gupta underscored her government’s broader goals, including cleaning the Yamuna River, improving water and sewer pipelines, and upgrading public amenities like toilets. She noted that Delhi had lagged in development over the past decade but is now poised to reclaim its position as a leading city, with trans-Yamuna as a key focus.
The event, organized by the Association of Wholesale Ready-Made Garments Dealers, was attended by dignitaries including MLA Anil Goyal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Kapil Khanna.
