Maharashtra has been placed on high alert following the powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed thirteen people and injured more than twenty. Senior Police Officials in Mumbai confirmed that a “precautionary alert” has been issued, with security strengthened at all vital installations and public spaces to prevent any possible incidents. The move comes amid concerns that terror networks may be connected to the explosion that rocked the National Capital on Monday evening.
According to police sources, the Maharashtra DGP’s office directed all district police chiefs, commissioners of major cities, and special units to remain on constant vigil. Security has been tightened at airports, railway stations, metro stations, and crowded markets. Senior officers have been told to keep field units on standby and to closely coordinate with central intelligence agencies. “All unit commanders and city commissioners have been instructed to stay alert and ensure maximum security deployment,” said a senior officer.
In Mumbai, security measures were visibly intensified on Monday night, especially around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Gateway of India, and key financial hubs in South Mumbai. Police patrolling was stepped up near malls, highways, and coastal areas while bomb detection and disposal squads conducted inspections around transport hubs. Additional armed personnel have been deployed at the Mumbai airport, Mantralaya, BKC, and other high-value targets.

The Delhi blast occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station around 6:52 pm, ripping through a parked car and setting multiple vehicles ablaze. Visuals showed huge flames and thick smoke engulfing the area as fire tenders battled the inferno. Twenty-four people were injured, several of them critically, and taken to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital. The explosion was powerful enough to damage nearby cars and shatter glass in adjoining buildings.
As the investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police continues, states across northern and western India have been placed on alert. Maharashtra’s police have been instructed to boost intelligence-gathering operations and maintain real-time coordination with neighboring states. With the upcoming festive season and heavy public movement expected in metropolitan areas, authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
