Suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil is facing intensified scrutiny after fresh audio clips and WhatsApp screenshots, allegedly involving him in explicit conversations with a woman about pregnancy, surfaced on social media on Monday. The new material—whose authenticity remains unverified—includes a purported voice note in which a man claimed to be Mamkootathil is heard speaking rudely to a woman discussing her pregnancy difficulties and another screenshot where the sender writes, “I want to make you pregnant; I need our child.” The leaks are being described as a continuation of earlier controversial audio that triggered his temporary suspension from the Congress party.
Mamkootathil, the MLA from Palakkad, addressed reporters on Monday and strongly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that he is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation and will pursue legal action against those circulating the material. “I have the right in this country to proceed legally, and I will exercise that right,” he said, adding that he has never violated any law and remains confident of vindication once the probe advances. He questioned the timing and motive behind the public release of the audio without prior verification, stating that he would clarify further at an appropriate stage of the investigation.
The initial allegations of sexual misconduct against Mamkootathil surfaced in August 2025 when a Malayalam actress and a writer leveled complaints, leading to his resignation as Kerala Youth Congress president and subsequent suspension from party activities. Senior Congress leader K. Muraleedharan clarified on Monday that Mamkootathil remains outside the party fold and any further disciplinary action would follow only if the state government or police take concrete steps based on evidence. “He is not currently a member… If the government takes action, Congress will move to the next step,” Muraleedharan told reporters.

Police have registered cases under relevant sections, including those related to sexual harassment, and the investigation is progressing with statements being recorded from complainants and others. The emergence of the new audio and chat screenshots has reignited political controversy in Kerala, with opposition parties demanding swift action while the ruling Left Front has accused the Congress of shielding its leader. Mamkootathil has maintained that the allegations are part of a targeted smear campaign and has urged patience until the probe concludes.
