The Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has taken custody of Karamveer Singh, a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, following his arrival at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport after being deported from Canada, officials said on Tuesday. The development marks another action by the state police against suspected transnational organised crime networks.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said Singh had allegedly provided logistical support and a hideout to Anmol Bishnoi in the United States. He was wanted in connection with a first information report registered in Mohali under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act and the Passport Act. The police had initiated a Look Out Circular against him on September 3.
According to the DGP, Singh has a criminal history involving cases related to murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, offences under the Arms Act and other criminal activities. Following his arrival in New Delhi, the AGTF took him into custody for further legal proceedings and investigation. Authorities are now examining his alleged role in organised criminal operations and seeking to establish the extent of his wider network.

The latest action comes amid intensified efforts by Punjab Police to track fugitives and dismantle criminal networks operating across international borders. Last week, the AGTF, in coordination with the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) and Central agencies, secured the extradition of Amritpal Singh, alias Amrit Dalam, a suspected key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, from Moldova.
Amritpal Singh is wanted in multiple cases involving murder, attempted murder, offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act and narcotics-related charges. Moldovan authorities detained him on February 24 while he was allegedly attempting to cross the Otaci state border towards Ukraine. The extradition process was subsequently initiated through OFTEC Punjab.
The Court of Chisinau granted his extradition to India on May 26, while his appeal was rejected by the Court of Appeal Centru on July 16, making the order final. A Punjab Police team took him into custody at Chisinau Airport and brought him to IGI Airport on September 12. The DGP described the operation, conducted under the six-month-long intelligence-led “Operation Eastern Reach”, as the first extradition secured by Punjab Police from a European country.
