A scuffle broke out between two groups of Nihang Sikhs inside the Darbar Hall of Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in the Sohana area of Mohali during celebrations marking the return of four Nihang Sikhs who were recently released on bail in the Karnprayag clash case. The incident occurred on Sunday amid a gathering of supporters who had assembled at the gurdwara to welcome the group following their release.
According to police officials, the altercation took place during the celebratory proceedings when differences emerged between the groups present inside the religious premises. What began as a gathering to mark the return of the four individuals reportedly escalated into a brief confrontation within the Darbar Hall, causing momentary tension among those present. Authorities, however, have confirmed that the situation did not escalate into any major violence and no serious injuries have been reported so far.
Following reports of the disturbance, a police team from the Sohana police station was immediately dispatched to the gurdwara to assess the situation and restore order. Officials said that the prompt response helped prevent the situation from worsening, and security personnel, along with local gurdwara management, intervened to separate the groups involved. The situation was brought under control shortly after police arrival, and normalcy was restored at the site.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohali, Harsimrat Singh Chehtra, confirmed that the situation is currently peaceful and under control. He stated that police received information about a scuffle inside the Darbar Hall and immediately reached the spot to manage the situation. According to him, while the incident caused temporary disturbance, the matter was quickly resolved on-site and there is no ongoing tension at present.
The DSP also noted that police action at this stage is being held in abeyance as authorities await a formal complaint from any of the parties involved. He clarified that legal proceedings will be initiated only after an official complaint is filed, in accordance with due process. Meanwhile, police remain in contact with the gurdwara management to ensure that no further disturbance occurs and that peace is maintained in the area.
In a video statement, DSP Chehtra reiterated that the situation has been fully neutralised. He said that upon receiving reports of a clash, a police team immediately reached the gurdwara and worked with local authorities to de-escalate tensions. He added that the environment at the site is now completely peaceful, though monitoring will continue as a precautionary measure.
The incident comes in the backdrop of the return of four Nihang Sikhs who were granted bail in connection with the Karnprayag clash case, which had earlier drawn attention due to its violent nature. Their release had prompted gatherings and celebrations at several locations, including Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Mohali.
While the recent scuffle appears to have been contained quickly, officials say they are treating the matter with caution given the sensitivities involved and the presence of multiple groups at the site. Further clarity on the incident is expected once statements are formally recorded and any complaints are submitted to the police. Until then, authorities have maintained that the situation remains under control and peace has been restored at the gurdwara premises.
