Political messaging within the Punjab Congress intensified on Monday as state party president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring strongly dismissed reports of factionalism, even as former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi shared a photograph featuring several senior leaders seen as backing him. The developments have renewed speculation over internal differences within the party.
Rejecting reports of infighting, Warring said recent meetings involving senior Congress leaders were aimed at strengthening the party rather than creating divisions. He pointed to a photograph shared on his personal social media account showing senior leaders together and said it reflected the unity of the Congress. He also maintained that meetings held in Mohali and at Channi’s residence in Morinda should not be viewed with political suspicion.
Warring said the gathering at Channi’s residence involved senior Congress leaders and noted that the former Chief Minister heads the party’s campaign committee. He added that several leaders who were absent from the Mohali meeting, including Partap Singh Bajwa, OP Soni, Rana KP Singh and Aruna Chaudhary, had met him separately. Warring said all leaders remained together and indicated they could soon appear on the same stage.

However, Channi’s social media post added a fresh dimension to the developments. Describing the gathering as a continuation of an earlier meeting, he shared a photograph featuring prominent leaders, including Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pargat Singh, Rana Gurjeet Singh and Sukhpal Singh Khaira. The image was seen as a show of strength by leaders reportedly dissatisfied with the current state leadership.
Sources said the dissident camp was unlikely to meet Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel. The Congress high command is also reportedly not inclined to make immediate organisational changes, amid concerns that responding to pressure from one group could encourage similar demands from party units in other states. No official announcement has been made regarding any possible leadership change.
According to sources, some dissatisfied leaders are discussing options ranging from boycotting programmes led by the current state Congress president to resigning from party positions if no changes are made. However, any final decision is expected only after discussions with Rahul Gandhi. While Warring continues to project party unity, Channi’s latest show of support has kept speculation over internal divisions alive.
