Powai Lake, one of Mumbai's key artificial lakes, began overflowing early Wednesday morning following continuous heavy rainfall across the city. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the lake started overflowing at around 5:30 am after water levels rose steadily due to persistent monsoon showers. The development reflects the strong inflow into the city's water bodies as rainfall continues across several parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Powai Lake has a storage capacity of approximately 545 crore litres of water and is primarily used for industrial purposes rather than supplying drinking water to the city. While the overflow is a sign of healthy water inflows during the monsoon season, civic authorities continue to closely monitor water levels and drainage systems to manage the impact of heavy rainfall on surrounding areas.
The BMC shared visuals of the overflowing lake, showing water flowing over the spillway after the reservoir reached its full capacity. The video quickly gained attention on social media as residents witnessed one of the city's prominent lakes overflowing during the ongoing monsoon. Heavy rainfall over the past several days has significantly increased water levels in lakes, rivers and reservoirs across Mumbai.

Further updates are expected as officials continue to assess the impact of the ongoing monsoon on Mumbai's infrastructure and water resources.
