A 21-year-old state-level badminton player was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute linked to his reported relationship with a minor girl in Faridabad near Delhi. Police have detained two suspects in connection with the case and said investigations are ongoing.
The victim, identified as Monu, was a resident of Saidpur village in Bhiwadi. According to his family, he had recently completed his Class 12 examinations and was an active sportsman who had represented at the state level in badminton. His relatives said he had also won multiple medals at the district level, reflecting his growing sporting profile.
Family members and police accounts suggest that Monu was involved in a relationship with a minor girl from the Tigaon police station area in Faridabad. Officials stated that a case had earlier been registered by the girl’s father after the two allegedly eloped in April. The girl was later recovered, while Monu had reportedly gone missing during the same period.

According to Monu’s uncle, Narendra, the young athlete had gone on May 17 to cooperate with the ongoing police investigation. However, the family has alleged that he was abducted by members of the girl’s family and held for several days. They further claimed that he was subjected to assault during this period.
On May 20, police informed the family that Monu had been found injured outside the girl’s residence. He was subsequently shifted to a private hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, officials said.
Faridabad Police spokesperson Yashpal confirmed that the matter is under investigation and that two individuals have been detained so far. Police said they are examining all angles of the case, including the circumstances leading to the alleged assault and death.
