Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a strong attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, accusing it of failing on issues including law and order, drug abuse, corruption and alleged misuse of public funds. Addressing a gathering in Jalandhar after inaugurating railway and road infrastructure projects, the Prime Minister described the ruling party in Punjab as “Kattar Beimaan” and alleged that governance in the state had deteriorated.
Speaking after inaugurating 75 redeveloped railway stations across 20 states under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, PM Modi referred to Punjab’s historical legacy and invoked the contribution of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He alleged that despite the state’s rich heritage, current challenges including crime, extortion and insecurity had become major concerns. He claimed that incidents of gang violence and attacks on police establishments reflected a breakdown in law and order.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns over drug trafficking and its impact on Punjab’s youth. He alleged that drug networks were operating freely and harming the future of young people in the state. PM Modi criticised the Punjab government’s handling of the issue and said stronger action was needed to protect the state’s younger generation from addiction.

Targeting the AAP government over financial management, PM Modi claimed that the Centre had provided significant funds to Punjab over the years but alleged that the state government had failed to utilise the money effectively. He also accused the administration of increasing debt burdens, saying that borrowed funds were being used while a large part of the state budget was spent on interest payments. The Punjab government has not yet responded to these allegations.
PM Modi further criticised AAP by referring to legal cases involving some of its leaders. Mentioning a recent Gujarat court verdict against an AAP MLA, he alleged that the party had faced repeated controversies involving corruption, extortion and criminal allegations. He also referred to the conviction of former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain in a Delhi riots-related case, accusing the party of questioning court decisions for political reasons.
During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of rail and road projects worth more than Rs 5,470 crore in Jalandhar. He inaugurated Jalandhar Cantt railway station along with 74 other redeveloped stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redeveloped stations, built at a cost of around Rs 1,570 crore, have been designed with modern passenger facilities while incorporating elements of local culture and heritage under the theme of “Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi.”
