Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mysuru on Saturday to inaugurate the Viveka Memorial at the Ramakrishna Vidyashala, a centre dedicated to commemorating Swami Vivekananda's historic visit to the city in 1892. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar welcomed the Prime Minister at the Mysuru helipad by presenting him with a shawl and bouquet, while Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot was also present during his arrival.

The Prime Minister is visiting Mysuru to attend the inauguration of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, also known as Viveka Smaraka, at the Ramakrishna Ashrama. The memorial has been built to honour Swami Vivekananda's connection with Mysuru and highlight his contributions to spiritual awakening, youth empowerment and national consciousness. The visit marks an important cultural event for the historic city.

Ahead of the Prime Minister's visit, Mysuru witnessed extensive security arrangements, with authorities deploying a large security force across the city. More than 1,000 police personnel were assigned for security duties under the supervision of South Zone Inspector General of Police M.B. Boralingaiah. The security team included senior police officials, inspectors, sub-inspectors, male and female personnel, along with Home Guards.

Authorities implemented strict security measures around key locations, including the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Oval Grounds, Mysuru Airport and the route of the Prime Minister's convoy. Traffic restrictions and road closures were introduced on several major routes to ensure smooth movement during the VVIP visit. Police officials said the arrangements were aimed at ensuring a secure and orderly programme.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre and Viveka Smaraka at the Ramakrishna Ashrama. He is also scheduled to visit the Ramakrishna Ashrama School before departing from Mysuru Airport for New Delhi by a special aircraft.

The Viveka Smaraka has been established to preserve the memory of Swami Vivekananda's visit to Mysuru in 1892, a significant period in his journey across India before his historic speech at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago in 1893. The memorial aims to inspire young people by promoting Vivekananda's ideals of education, service, character-building and national development.
