Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 6,957-crore Kaziranga Elevated Corridor in Assam’s Nagaon district and virtually flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains connecting Assam to northern and central India. The corridor aims to ensure safe wildlife movement across Kaziranga National Park while reducing road accidents and supporting local ecotourism.
The Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, part of the four-laning of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH 715, will feature 34.45 km of elevated, wildlife-friendly roadways along with bypasses at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat. Officials said the project will also generate local employment opportunities and provide safe passage during floods for both people and animals.
Addressing the gathering at a rally in Kaliabor town, PM Modi emphasized BJP’s development agenda, citing recent electoral successes in Bihar, Maharashtra, and Kerala civic polls. He contrasted BJP’s governance record with Congress, alleging that the grand old party relies on negative politics and has lost public trust over the years.

In addition to the corridor, PM Modi virtually flagged off the Dibrugarh–Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) and Kamakhya–Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express trains. Officials highlighted that these trains will enhance rail connectivity between Assam and multiple states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana, reduce travel times, and provide modern passenger amenities.
The Prime Minister also reviewed a model of the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, describing it as a landmark infrastructure initiative that balances development with wildlife conservation. The corridor and new rail services are expected to strengthen tourism, trade, and mobility, while improving safety for both residents and the region’s iconic wildlife population.
