Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the 7.2-km six-lane elevated Kona Expressway in Howrah, West Bengal, a ₹1,200 crore project set to revolutionize connectivity in the region. The expressway will link Howrah with its surrounding rural areas and Kolkata, significantly reducing travel time and fostering trade, commerce, and tourism, according to officials.
The project is poised to enhance infrastructure in one of West Bengal’s key districts, streamlining access and supporting economic growth. Earlier in the day, Modi also inaugurated three new metro routes in Kolkata, including the city’s first direct metro link to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Marking the occasion, the Prime Minister waved a green flag to commence operations on these routes, further bolstering Kolkata’s urban connectivity.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and promoting seamless transportation networks in West Bengal, paving the way for enhanced regional development and economic opportunities.
